Acceptable Use Policy for Student Use of
the Internet
(Based on Rules and Regulations #6163.4)
Students in Riverside Unified School
District
have access to technology to enhance their understanding of the
curriculum. Prior to being allowed
access to the Internet at school, students and their parents must sign the RUSD
Acceptable Use Consent Form. The RUSD
Acceptable Use Policy and Rules and Regulations list rules for use of the Internet
and computer technology. If a student violates any of these rules,
his/her use shall be terminated and future access may be denied. Disciplinary action may also result. If possible criminal activity is discovered;
the proper authorities will be notified.
Disciplinary action for students shall be in accordance with existing
discipline policies and may include suspension or expulsion.
1. The Internet shall only be used to access
educational information. Purchase of any
items or services is not allowed through the district network.
2. Students shall not load personal software or
programs on District computers nor shall they download programs from the
Internet without the approval of their instructor.
3. Vandalism shall not be tolerated.
4. Although the district uses a filter to block
inappropriate Internet sites and prohibits access to “harmful matter” [defined
in Penal Code 313(a)] on the Internet which may be obscene or pornographic,
some inappropriate material my appear.
If this occurs, it is the responsibility of the student to report the
inappropriate site to the supervising teacher, instructional assistant, or
librarian.
5. Not all access to the Internet can be
supervised. Students agree not to
access, submit, publish, display, or print over the Internet/Intranet any
defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, obscene, profane, sexually oriented,
threatening, racially offensive or illegal material.
6. Students shall not use the Internet/Intranet
to send any information that would threaten or offend others or promote any
activity that is against the law or district policy. Appropriate language is to be used at all
times.
7. Copyright laws must be followed. All materials from the Internet, including
graphics, which are used in student projects or reports, must be properly
cited, Copyrighted materials may not be placed on the Internet/Intranet without
the permission of the author.
8. Riverside Unified School District denies any
responsibility for the accuracy of information obtained from the Internet.
9. The use of computer technology and the Internet
is not private and may be subject to inspection and/or monitoring by District
employees.
10. Students shall not provide their own or other’s
personal information such as home addresses, telephone number, or last name
when using the Internet.
11. Student work may be published on the class or
school Web pages. First names only will
be used to identify student work for grades K-8. First and last names may be used in grades
9-12. Photographs of students may also
be published. Names of students shall
not be used to identify photos. Student
and parent permission for written works and photos must be obtained before
publication occurs.

I/We hereby agree to comply
with the Acceptable Use Policy, as described above. If a parent or guardian, I hereby consent to
my child’s or ward’s use of the Internet at school. I/we also agree not to hold the district
responsible for materials acquired by the student on the system, for violations
of copyright restrictions, users’ mistakes, negligence, or any costs incurred
by users.

Student work and photos may
be published on the Internet for a world-wide audience via RUSDnet
with the consent of the student and (if the student is under 18) parent/guardian.
I give permission for the
publication of my/my student’s work, photo, and name on the RUSD Website. (Note: names of students shall not be used to
identify photos.)
